Question:

Golf announcer that has an irritating soft voice?

I have been watching golf now for about a year off and on. I enjoy watching golf now more than when I was younger. (I watched golf as a teenager in the 90's). Appearently, each television studio has their own announcers. CBS has theirs, NBC has their own.

I remember hearing an announcer that had a very low or soft voice that was so horrible to listen to. It sounded like a play-by-play announcer. I'm sure who ever he is, he must be at least in his 50's by now. His voice sounds like no others. I have not heard his voice too much now as compared with the 90's.

I can't even listen to any golf announcers (or anything) from my computer.

I don't have the drivers installed on my new hard drive for sound and I lost my Windows XP software CD, so I can't download the drivers for sound even if I wanted to.

If you happen to know golf like that back of your hand and know of the announcers, please help me with this. thanks!

  1. I bet you mean Johnny Miller.

  2. You are not referring to the Britisher, Peter Allis, are you? What is so  irritating about his voice ? He is not announcing  world wide wrestling. It's just a golf tournament.

  3. Without details about the announcer, other than it's a male (which doesn't narrow it down), no one is going to be able to help you. All golf announcers speak softly so as not to disrupt the golfers. And most of the announcers have unique voices.

I could give you a list of 25 guys with audio but it wouldn't matter. And there really isn't a "play-by-play" announcer. On any one day, a network will have one host, one or two analysts, a few tower announcers, field reporters, a swing analyst and an interviewer.

If you don't know at which network he worked, then please try and provide another distinguishing factor about him (guess his name, what he looked like, even a tournament he worked).

Finally, perhaps if you explained why you need to know, it would help us help you.

  4. My guess would be Bobby Clampett.

  5. When they switch from the booth to an announcer on the course they often whisper because the players are hitting or putting so they all do it as a courtesy . It's part of the game, get over it.
