Question:

Golf caddying questions?

Hey there, I just have some questions about becoming a golf caddy. I'm 14 years old.

1.) How much can I expect to earn in a week caddying for 4-5 days?

2.) Is the job flexible so that I can go away for a few days and come back and work?

3.) How much does a young caddy make for a full 18 hole round? (No tip)

4.) If I make a large blunder on the course (can't see where the ball went, drop the clubs, etc.), what kind of trouble will I get into?

  1. 1. Depends on the course.  Some courses pay caddies minimum wage, while other courses do not hire caddies at all.  Depending on where you work and how many rounds you caddy in a day, you could make anywhere from $200 - $400 per week before your tips.

    2.  Depends on the course.  If you let your boss know about any plans you have for the summer ahead of time, most people will work with you.  Be honest and up front.  If you want to work 4 days a week, tell them.  It may cost you a job, but it's better than saying that you can work 5 days a week all day long and then have to balk on the agreement.

    3.  Again, depends on the course.  If you are making $6 per hour, you can figure about $24 per round before your tips.  You'll make the bulk of your money on tips, not on your hourly wage.

    4.  No one is perfect.  You are going to make mistakes because you are only human.  However, you want to strive to do the best job you can.  Most courses that provide caddies do so because they require a caddy to be with the golfer.  If you habitually do a bad job, they will talk to management about it and you will quickly find yourself at the bottom of the barrel.  On the flip side, you do well and people may start to ask for you specifically, which is a good thing.  You may carry 2 bags at a time, but they won't ask you to carry more than that.

  2. okay, the salary you earn will depend on what the course rate is, if they allow caddies at all.  Secondly, you need to have a pretty good knowledge of the game and the course as well.  The flexibility will depend on the Club's (your employer) rules regarding that matter.  Caddies have a HUGE range. If it is some po dunk goat ranch then if they even have caddys it would be pretty low.  However, if you are at a reputable club and you are good at what you do, you can make up to 60-75 bucks a round or so.  Also many good clubs don't pay that high, but the big bucks come from the tips.  Just like waiting tables at a nice restaurant.   Remember being your age is so young and seem to lack knowledge of being a caddy, you should really not expect to work at too good of a club and probably make around 20 bucks or so if your lucky.  If you make a one time blunder, you might not get and caddy deal with any of those particular players, but the club would not do anything to you if it wasn't a HUGE deal and if it was just an accident and your not some bumbling stumbling caddie from he11

Good Luck and feel free to toss me the 10 pts.  I didn't want to lie to you, just wanted you to know the facts.
