Golf club dinner dance?

I have been invited by someone I like to a golf club dinner dance next Saturday. I am told its quite a formal affair and will be a silver served dinner followed by prize givings and a dance to a live band. I am 19 and was wondering what I should wear to this function which i believe to fairly formal. I am also very nervous as I dont want to look out of place

  2. most people will wear posh party dresses - some long and most calf length.

Average age will be much older then you so you would be able to get away with younger look but i would suggest you don't go for mini skirt length or very revealing.

As a general idea YES -

  3. You can never go wrong with the simple black cocktail dress.

  4. Could you ask your escort what other ladies are likely to wear?  If not, or he just gives you an unhelpful answer (he's a man after all), then you will need to wear something quite formal - either a long dress or a smart cocktail dress - understated elegance is best.  As one of the other answerer's stated, there will be a mix of ages and you will be amongst the youngest there, so don't wear anything too funky.  That said, don't try and dress too old for your age.

Try and keep jewellery to the minimum (less is more).

Don't be phased by the silver service aspect of the dinner, this will not equate to a top London restaurant, but almost certainly means you will be served by a member of the waiting staff rather than a carvery or self-service buffet table.

There's bound to be lots of conversation around the game of golf, but equally, there will be lots of partners (male and female) who won't play the game at all.

Be yourself and you won't go far wrong.

  5. Ashley, I,m sorry if I have the wrong end of the stick here but the thumbnail looks a bit like a bloke, so maybe its the previous answerers that have it wrong. Anyway here it goes, You can get away with suit, dress shirt and dickie bow. OR you could trawl the local charity shops (as I did!!) and find a 2nd hand dinner jacket and pair it up with a pair of black trousers, either way find a jazzy dickie bow and eyes will be on that, You'll look the bees knees.
