  1. Visit your local golf club pro. and receive valuable advice. It could well be that a second hand ladies' set would suit your son for the next 2/3 years and then he could buy a men's set.

  2. maybe try starting with ladies clubs and then in a few years full size..thats what  i did i played with ladies clubs for a year and then as my handicap got to 8 i got the full size irons.taylormade r7 tp.good irons

  3. I would get him a cheap full size set until he gets taller. How tall you are should be a factor. This will be how tall he could get real soon. When he gets better, (can break 100) then buy him his own set of nice clubs. Until then he will just be frustrated. Try Lynx or Tour Edge for a beginner set. Good quality for a great price.

  4. Just bring him to your local golf pro shop and get him measured and fitted. It will be free of charge and will get him of to a great start. Get him cavity back irons which have a bigger sweet spot and be easier to hit. Good luck, he will get many happy hours enjoyment even if hes not playing well.

  5. Whatever you do don't spend too much money, as your son's physique is sure to change, some advice can be found at the link below but your best advised to see a pro.

  6. First of all your son is young and still growing, i have worked in a golf shop so i know a lot about it.

you should buy a full size set, then get them customer fitted, he will most likely need the clubs flattened and cut short as well.

If he has bad equipment then he will get into bad habits and will never develop the proper golf swing, he will always make compensations for the club.

You should go to a golf shop and get your son sorted out.

    hope this helps

  7. if he is going to play in tournaments later down the road then get him custom fitted.  If your are taking him out once or twice a week to go out and have fun than get him a a fullsize set so he can grow into them, because hes 12 and hes going to start to shoot up and get taller.  And height is not the only issue you should be worried about.  You should look at every aspect. ex.) grip size, shaft flex, shaft weight, and blade design.  If you're serious about it you can do your own research and be fine.

  8. Go to a pro shop and let them asess what he needs. Tell them from the off he is learning and it could be a fad and you dont have a fortune to spend. They should set you up with the necessary 2nd hand set they get as trade ins.

A decent pro shop will know that if they provide good service from the first set and he takes to the sport he will be back to them for maybe lessons and hopefully his next set when he needs them.

Go to a place with at least a driving range, a golf discount centre is not the right place for unbiased professional advice.

  9. Go with a full size set.  If they are a little long for him now he can always just choke up a little.  Then over the next couple of years if he shoots up in height they will still work for him.  Height alone has nothing to do with how long clubs should be, what is important is the length of his arms in relation to his body and distance from knuckles to the ground with arms at his sides.  If you and he both have "normal" body proportions you could be a foot taller, but the distance from knuckles to ground will be the same.

  10. Get him an adult set - but get him second hand set rather then a cheap set.

Not all children take to it and so you might waste your money, go and ask in driving range or local club as they often have second hands sets and will offer good advice.

Ideally buy him a set of 6 lessons and then buy on recommendation of the pro - if he learns bad habits now they are a nightmare to get out of.

If he sticks to it and grows a couple of inches (ie next season) you can buy him a better set - whatever you buy him he may want a different set when he makes friends with other juniors and they tell him whats a good make

final warning - you are allowing him to take up a very addictive and time consuming hobby - and a very expensive one, however he will learn how to talk to different people of different ages and to be a true sportsman

  11. pro dude your pro dude your pro dude

  12. have him try them out in the store...

I'm 5'1" and I still play with jr. clubs....but i think by 5'4" they should be full size already.

  13. Ideally he needs to go and be booked in for some golf lessons to ensure that he is taught right ....from the beginning ...the pro can then advice him on clubs and spec ...to just go out and buy some will probably damage his game and enjoyment ..

  14. If he gets fitted he is old enough to get adult clubs. The best choice is to take him and see what feels right to him
