Golf fan makes an appeal on a gambling dispute – Golf News
Golf fan Lee Beardmore is angry after he did not get the £1,250 payout, which he won by betting on Bubba Watson who won the Masters Tournament on Sunday, April 8, 2012.
According to Beardmore, he registered a bet with a bookmaker Coral and his slip stated the odds of Bubba Watson’s win as 1000-1.
However, when he claimed his prize to the company, he was offered £66 because of some confusion at the bookie’s side.
Coral told that there was some mistake made by a worker while writing down the odds as the real odd stated 1-40 for Watson winning the tournament.
Therefore, Beardmore was offered £66 as a goodwill gesture, which he refused to accept.
He asked why he should be punished for a mistake that someone else has made. Consequently, he must be paid what his slip says.
"I don't bet very often, but I am an avid golf fan so I enjoy a flutter on the Masters and I couldn't believe it when Bubba won,” Beardmore said.
"I was really excited when I went to collect my winnings because I've never won that much before. But when I found it was a mistake I didn't know what to think,” he continued.
"I was gutted and angry because I don't know why I should be punished for someone else's mistake. I put good money on a bet which I thought was legitimate and now it turns out it's not worth the paper it's written on," he added.
He made a complaint to Coral’s customer care office and the reply came stating that there was a human error while making the slip.
The company also offered a sincere apology to the bettor. They also told that the company policy clearly mentions the solution for this type of situation.
According to the policy, a person will get the amount against the real odds at the time when the bet was placed.
To this, Beardmore has decided to make an appeal in front of the Independent Betting Adjudication Service that deals with gambling disputes.
