i've recently developed a slice to the right in the last couple of days, i went and asked my high school golf coach about the issue, he told me move my right hand more on top and my left hand more to the left, ive always heard that to stop a slice you need a stronger grip and to get a stronger grip you move both hands to the right, who is correct on the issue?

  1. If this isn't your issue there is no one right or wrong. I say finish farther through. Slices are caused by deceleration somewhere in your swing. For a stron grip put your fingers on the club instead of your palms. It promotes a draw.

  2. For a stronger grip, put your hand further to the right.

If you turn them to the left then you will be making your grip weaker, therefore it is harder to roll the hands through the shot.

  3. Adopting a stronger grip may fix your slice, but this is generally considered a quick fix.  You need someone to observe your swings, perhaps it could be your path, or your follow through and finish that are causing your slice, or could be your ball placement, or your hip swaying too much, or your right arms getting stuck on the downswing.

Bottom line is you need a more permanent fix, rather than a quick fix.

  4. A strong grip will have the v's in your hands both in line with your back shoulder

A Neutral grip will have the v's in your hands in line with a point in the middle of your chin and back shoulder

A Weak grip the v's should be pointint at your chin

  5. You coach pointed for a very strong grip.... That way, your left hand will reduce slice and your right hand will prevent hooks....   listen to him.

  6. Ur coach is definately rite! A slice is created by a weak grip or a wrong grip. He moved ur hand to the left so u pull through easier to keep ur club head still, if that doesn't work than try a tighter grip.

                  Hope this helps.

  7. Your school golf coach is right in what he is saying but maybe you should get a professionals advice. Don't Strengten your grip too much because it will cause you to become tense and uncomfortable.
