Golf handicap.........?

I am just going back into playing golf after a 5 year lay off.

I am fully aware of the stableford scoring rules, it's just the handicap i cant remember, etc: if i played off 24, on a par 72, how do i calculate to what handicap i played too on the day.

UK, un- modified rules only folks.

Sunday just gone i scored, 38 points on a par 72, stableford, and was playing off 28 (not a bandit folks), so i would appreciate it if any kind folk could just jog my memory on how to determine what i played too.

Many thanks in advance.

  1. Any stableford event is calculated as such...

Nett Par always equals 36 points (No matter what par the course, Nett par on every single hole would give you 2 points, therefore 18 x 2 points = 36)

On the Sunday that you had 38 points, which means you shot a 70 Nett (2 points above the Nett Par, means 2 shots below rating). keep in mind anything above 36 points is playing below the par of the course.

If you add 28 (your handicap) to 70 you have had 98 shots for the round.

That particular day you played to a 26 handicap (Thats working off the CCR being 72).

I'm not sure what you're asking here, but, here is a link to a boatload of pages that go into in-depth explanations of handicaps:

    http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=golf+ha...

Specifically wikipedia has a section on UK:

  4. 10 holes 1 points 8 holes 2 points total 36 points.

Therefore 38 is 2 under so lose two points so you play 12 holes on 1 point and 8 holes on 2 points. This is my answer but strictly speaking it is far more complicated in calculating from your club. It's explained in my book Golf Rules Explained by Peter Dobereiner. Try to carry a copy of the rules especially if your going to play comps. Good luck in the future.
