  3. These are really a hold over from the forged iron and wood head days. Those clubs really COULD get nicked up to the point where they were no good anymore.

Modern cast irons don't need them. Your metal woods might -- but only to preserve the finish on top.

I use metal wood covers just because I like to have ones in my college colors.

  4. Golf covers are extremely important to maintain your clubs in great shape.

  5. You should definitely have headcovers on your driver, fairway woods, hybrids, and putter. They protect those clubheads from nicks and scratches. Those clubs are usually the most expensive single clubs. Also your putter needs protection because to smallest nick or scratch can affect the roll of the ball on the green. Your putter should be one of the most expensive and important clubs in the bag. You use it the most, so it makes sense to get a really good one and protect it.

Also do people call fairway woods and hybrids "metal woods"? That sounds right because they are made of metal, but isn't "metalwood" a contradiction?

  6. always protect your putter and use a ball washer before every drive.
