Question:

Golf help? What kind of irons to buy?

I want to get some new irons for this summer, but im not sure which kind to get. My swing is very much like jim furyk's (however you spell his name) and I get a lot of backspin on the ball. Also I have a natural slice, the ball flight goes left and slowly comes back to the middle. My average distance is about 130 yards with a pitching wedge and 250 with a 3 wood. I really dont know if this will help, but I need some advice on what clubs to buy, and which could help my game. I would perfer to spend not to little but not to much on clubs, about 500-800$ price range would be nice. Note, im also 5'8 and 16. Thanks!

  1. Well, it sounds like you don't need a ton of help getting the ball up. You didn't say you wanted to correct your fade, so I wouldn't suggest draw-enhanced clubs. With just this to go on, here's a few suggestions.

These are just solid clubs that come in below your price range, I don't know your prefered trajectory, how often you hit the sweet spot, or anything else. A good clubfitter can help you a lot here. Good luck.

  2. The Nike Sasquaches are awesome. Since their kinda (but not really) old there about in your price range.

  3. get the taylor made R7 draw irons, great irons that will give you better height, control and distance and most importantly will straighten out your ball flight

    hope this helps

  4. From what you have said above, I reckon that your swing speed should be suitable for a stiff shaft. Something you can look at would be the cobra s9s or callaway x-20s

  5. Check out this month's Golf Magazine Club Test '08.  It has models for all handicap levels and prices.  That way you can determine what you want for yourself.

  6. GO FOR PING G-10 cause its the BEST!!!

  7. Callaway X20's are by far the best irons out there

  8. Any cobra set. The S9's are nice. I have the FP's which are a little cheaper but I love them. Also the new cobra UFI's are amazing but expensive.

  9. I was going through the same situation beside being 6'-5"  And the best thing that you can do is go to a local golf store and get fitted, and try as many different styles you can.  I went to a local Golf Galaxy and paid $50 for my fitting.  That price also goes to the price of a new set of irons if you purchase in 30 days.

I have about the same averages as you and have always hit stiff shafts in my irons and driver.  After testing my iron speed was around 90mph average and I am getting regular flex shafts.  My driver average is 110mph and I am also getting regular with a low kick point to help with trajectory.

I am going to get the Cleveland CG Gold.

  10. Get mizunos, real men play with blades
