I am planning a trip to Colorado in early september, primarily to play golf, (although she does'nt know that yet), so i was wondering if any of you guys could give us a few tips on the best part of the state to stay in, bearing in mind that others will want do some sightseeing, and shopping etc, whilst i'm slaving over 18 holes.

Also the climate for that time of year, and the nearest airport.

I know that i could dig around on line to get info, but i would like to hear it first hand from people who either live there, or who have visited for a short period.

Thanks in advance.

Danny, London, UK

PS: Although money is not really an issue, how expensive is it in Colorado.

Thanks again.

  1. There is some great golf in the Pueblo, CO area. The women's amateur public links championship was here a couple of years ago. The green fees are less than $25 so it is very reasonable. The shopping is not the best in the world, but there are a lot of things to do. Pikes Peak is right up the road, as is the Arkansas River Gorge. Great Sand Dunes National Park is not very far away. It is very inexpensive here, and I would be willing to show you some of the local sights.

  2. I stayed in Colorado for a "golf" vacation in September two years ago. I stayed in Denver with my girlfriend. It was great.

Take a look at Arrowhead Golf Course. It is the most photographed course in the USA. The course has a few memorable golf holes and "perhaps" the most memorable golf scenery anywhere.

Also look at Fossil Trace and The Ridge at Castle Pines.

Just south of Denver is Broadmoor, I didn't play there and have regretted it ever since.

For touristy things, visit Pikes Peak, Seven Falls, Rocky Mountain National Park, Cave of the Winds...

Denver is a great city. Rockies and perhaps Pre-season Broncos (I don't imagine you care much for American sports...but the atmosphere is wonderful).

We went white water rafting: http://www.dvorakexpeditions.com/

    It was awesome too.

We live in New England and Colorado was a real bargain compared to here. I just came back from a year working in Northern Europe, for you, the vacation will be incredibly cheap... assuming you can get a good price on airfare.

    In September prices are great.

    You'll need a rental car...

Shopping is good as Denver is a real "trendy" city. Downtown has a nice shopping area, as do the surrounding towns and cities...

    Good Luck.

  3. Durango might work for you. It is a smaller place but has great restaurants and places to stay. As to golf Durango has several good courses, but Farmington New Mexico is only 40 minutes away and is home to arguably the best public course in America, Pinon Hills is cheap and always mentioned in the golf mags for it's value and challenge. Because Durango is in the southwest of Colorado the temp in September might be warmer than other areas. You can fly into Durango, Farmington, or even Albuquerque. If you fly into Alb. you can go thru Sante Fe and Pagosa Springs for fun day stops.

  4. depends on where in colorado

there some great courses in the mountains

but if you're sticking to the denver metro area

thre are tons of courses between $15-$115
