Golf in the Kingdom
A group of journalists associated with the golf industry in the United States and the United Kingdom, backed by professional golfer teachers from the United States are currently participating in a golf tourism promotion campaign titled “Golf in the Kingdom”
in Thailand.
The Golf Media Fam-Trip will tour some of the best courses of the country in Bangkok, Hue Him and Chiang Mai. Journalists are playing in the tour to gain firsthand knowledge about golf in Thailand, which will enable them to plan and organize golf trips to
the country. James Mason, a journalist working for the Golf Monthly, was astounded with the experience he was having, “This is my first visit to Thailand and I am pleasantly surprised by the huge variety and excellent standard of their golf courses. I would
give these courses 8 out of 10 with no hesitation.”
Mrs Juthaporn Rerngronasa, Deputy Governor for the Tourism Marketing, also spoke on the occasion and said that the idea of a mythical Tropical paradise is not a myth when it comes to Thailand. The emerald green waters, isolated island getaways, luxuriant
landscape and affordable prices are some of the many attractive features of golfing in the Kingdom. “This year, we have set a strategy to expand quality tourists by stepping up our promotions of the golf tourism market.” Mrs Rerngronasa said, “In times of
recurring and unpredictable crisis, the TAT needs to continue to attract market segments which still have the desire and the means to travel. Golf tourism is one such segment.”
Unlike other Asian countries, where golf is not a mainstream sport, Thailand boasts no less than 260 golf courses. These courses provide excellent facilities for the sport which are by no means any less than the international standards. A highlight of these
courses is that they come with very economical price tags. In the last five years, some 20 European and Asian tours have visited the serene Thai courses and have enjoyed the relaxing resort experience everyone cherishes. These courses also boast some gigantic
clubhouses which might come as a surprise to the guests at first, but the facilities and amenities available, quickly help them relax and enjoy their stay.
Mark Siegel, CEO of tour operators Golfasian said, “We are delighted with the number of top class golf editors, journalists and golf professionals who have travelled here this week. We plan to include more of these trips in the future, to spread the word
that ‘Golf in the Kingdom’ is a totally unforgettable experience for all members of the family.”
Steve Hahn of the Golf Digest also spoke highly of the quality of the courses in the country and the blend with the rich cultural experience that he has not found anywhere else. Thailand’s traditional world-famous all-female caddie-corps adds a distinctive
flavour of its own for the visiting players.
