Golf is the most pure sport. Yes or No? Explain.?

I believe it is, but will not espouse the reasoning behind my opinion at this point in the question. I am also biased because I am a self proclaimed golf addict.

I hate to say it but according to the PGA, golf is a game. I am biased as well. It's the only game where you are the only person to beat.

As far as technicalities go though, I think golf is the greatest SPORT ever played

Golf is a game not a sport. Baseball is also a game not a sport the reason is this no time clock. I feel these are the best

games of all time pure in a sense of being an individual. In baseball its you against the pitcher so its a little different. Golf is more pure because of nature and history.

The game of golf is pure in this regard, it's you against the course. There is no way to "beat" the game, just play it to the best of your ability. Sport or skill or whatever, golf is a spiritual endeavor to all gamesmen . I too am obsessed with the game and love every nuance therein.

golf is a skill game.  Like Chess.  although it requires a good amount of hand / eye coordination.  It's hard to say if Golf is even a sport.  It matters not, as I will love this game til I die.  Word is BOND!

As one can surmise by the seven answers thus far, only a couple have any idea what the game is about. Fat men in fancy pants and funny hats? That is a brilliant deduction!! There is no other game where one has to achieve only by his talents. Even the Tour de France is made up of teams who lead the way, block out opponents, assist the lead rider. The golf professional is on his own. His living is earned by his finishes. If he doesn't qualify, he and his family don't eat. If he is unsuccessful for a couple of years and the sponsor's backing is gone, so is the player. If you don't finish in the top 30, you don't play for the title. If you don't qualify in the next 120, you are relegated to the minor tour.. So everything revolves around the individuals' talent, a lucky shot or two and the constant practice to become better.

Golf is not a sport. It involves no real physical exertion but it does involve a tremendous amount of skill. I do play golf twice a week and I'm sooo addicted to it. But to sit back and call myself an athlete that plays a sport would be pushing it.

I don't believe it is a "Pure" game because it relies to much on the honesty of others. In this Game you can manipulate the rules to make it easier for you. Example the balls in a little mud pile.."oh the rule says i can move it!" or "I hit it over a hill where no one can see me let me just give it a little kick closer to the hole!" Very flawed rules but a h**l of a game!!

Mark Twain commented that golf is a good walk spoiled.

I love it and every time one plays the course is different...same course..heat, humidity,length of grass and rough, direction of the sun, wind.  A real challenge.

Those that say it is not a sport have not picked up a club and probably like to watch couples figure skating on TV or Project Runway.
