Golf latest: 11th Philippine International Junior Golf Championships starts tomorrow
The 11th edition of Philippine International Junior Golf Championships will hit the courses tomorrow, Jan 4, 2011.
Tournament director Gerard Cantada made an official statement during a press briefing on Monday morning that the series of Philippine International Junior Golf Championships will take place as per schedule.  He gave this statement to eliminate the arising
commotion of tournament rescheduling on later dates. Philippines is facing heavy fog and rain since a week, which led to a notion that the tournament will be shifted ahead to unreel the risk factor.
The four-day event comes to Philippines in every January to celebrate junior golf. This time, it has been bought by Maynilad, which is a bottled water brand, Philippines Child Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) and the Philippine Junior Golf Federation, which is
headed by Edgardo Cantada.
The tournament will start with a practice round, which will start at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, with registration one day prior to the event. According to a media, players from all over the world will be teeing off in the tournament. By far, golfers from Taiwan,
China, Singapore, US, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Korea have been registered for the tournament. These contenders will report to Cantada Sports Centre in Taguig City for final confirmation.
Gerard Cantada revealed that the local top guns are expected to give a tough competition to the foreigners. He said that players like Jobim Carlos, Bino de la Paz, Princess Superal, AR Ramos, Angela de Villa, and Andrea Unson would be teeing off on Tuesday
against 40 foreigners at the Ayala Greenfield Golf and Leisure Club in Calamba. The purpose of this exercise is to promote golf in the region so that children opt for it as a profession in future.
He stated, “We want 2011 to be a banner year for Philippine junior golf, and we hope this event will kick off that bid.”
The tournament will start tomorrow at the pre-decided venue with a field of forty-six players from multiple ethnicities.  2011 has been dubbed as the year of golf in Philippines, which is a very good way to promote the sports in the region.
