Golf news: Cindy LaCrosse and Jennifer Song win the card to LPGA
Is it possible to have one playoff and two winners in golf? Well, actually it is. Yesterday Price Chopper Tour Championship wrapped its wings at the Capital Hills where two ladies won. Cindy LaCrosse won the championship whereas Jennifer Song became the runner-up but in result of their victories and the prize money they won, both the ladies received the exempt status into LPGA.
So technically it was a win-win situation for both the girls, thereby it was marked by a hug at the last hole. The winner of the tournament Cindy has already established herself as the leader on the Future tour by claiming the third victory of the season. She earned her third tour victory of the season by two-putting for par on the first playoff hole. However, this is not all as she won the prize money of $16,800 from the event, which carried a purse of $120,000. As for the other player Jennifer, she lost the playoff but rose in the tour’s money list, as she jumped from the fourth position to the third after winning the amount of $12000. Both the ladies have earned their way into the LPGA after finishing in the top 5 of the future tour earning.
Talking to the press the 23-year-old Cindy said that she was very excited over her achievement but she was also happy for the 20-year-old Jennifer who turned professional last year in June, and now after only one year she was going to play in the events in which the best female golfers of the world play. She further added that she was looking forward to play with her on the LPGA next season. Cindy herself has earned the title “player of the year” which is a huge achievement itself. As for Jennifer, she took the title “Rookie of the year” at the age of 20 based on her earnings this season.
Coming to the earnings portion, Jennifer actually earned more per tournament, as she banked on $7,042, whereas Cindy earned $6,305. As a token for knowledge, Jennifer is a dual citizen of US and South Korea which means she was eligible to make a cut in the Curtis Cup, a biennial competition matching the U.S. against a team from Great Britain and Ireland to turn professional. If she would not have taken part in it, she might have earned more. Talking to the press Jennifer said that she felt light after the tournament, especially after winning because she knew that a finish in the top three would vault her way into the LPGA, and this is exactly what happened.
Coming to the performance delivered by both ladies, Cindy LaCrosse and Jennifer Song started the day with a blast but the interesting fact was that they were not the previous night leaders. Both marched into the lead after birding the last hole of the back nine to finish with a 2-under-par 69. Another fascinating feature that arose on the course was their test against the weather conditions, as it was terribly windy and most of the players fell a victim to it but Jennifer posted two birdies at the final two holes and Cindy posted one.
According to the golf analysts, Jennifer Song demonstrated a strong command on her swings which was unusual for an amateur but when she lifted the 6-iron on the 18th tee box, it became apparent that she was heading towards a birdie and so she did. As for Cindy LaCrosse, she too is a fine player and that is evident from the control she possesses on the shot. If it was not her control then she might not have birdied the last hole of the course, despite facing constant pressure from her fellow player and the wind.
Summing it up, Cindy LaCrosse and Jennifer Song made their way into the LPGA tour by posting a top five finish at the Price Chopper Tour Championship. They were reported to exchange hugs on the course, however, this was their official last hug on future tour, as next year they will embrace each other on the LPGA event.
