Golf news: Devils raise money for charity at the Annual Alumni Charity Golf Classic
On Wednesday, the Annual Alumni Charity Golf Classic was held by the Devils. This was the 11th annual Charity Golf Classic, which raised money for the New Jersey Charities. The tournament hit the links of the Montclair Country Club located in
Clifton.
Since the event was hosted by the Devils, it saw a lot of its family members that included the well-known, Martin Brodeur, Zach Parise and Jamie Langenbrunner. Other than these current players, the event also welcomed the presence of Greg Adams, Craig Wolanin
and Dave Lewis.
According to the Director of the Alumni Association, Bruce Driver, this event has played a key role in helping the players to associate well with the fans and has aided them to acquaint with the current players in the golf arena. Other than aiding the Alumni,
the tournament has been able to achieve its basic goal, raising money for the charity. The director said that the event has raised enough money to keep them busy throughout the entire spell. The association also has a scholarship program for the hockey players
of senior high school, enabling them to play charity Hockey games. The director elaborated that the amount between eight and ten raised every year is spread to many charities in New Jersey.
The funds from the charity help a lot of lives in the Garden State. The scholarship program not only helps the students academically, but it is also a major source of nurturing the game locally as well.
The Captain Jamie Langenbrunner has his own way of swinging the clubs. He has had a recent summer trip to Scotland along with Andy Greene and played in some of the most historically praised clubs like the Golf course of St. Andrew’s. Langenbrunner said that
he had a lot of fun this event, while playing with the new players. He said it’s always fun with these guys whether it is here or in Dallas. Langenbrunner added that apart from playing with these guys, interaction with the fans is also a treat.
Martin Brodeur isn’t far behind in the team at all. He says that for him, playing golf is always an enjoyable activity. He further jokingly added that when he plays it with somebody else other than Jamie, it isn’t a bad game at all.
One of Langenbrunner’s teammate who showed up in the tournament was Greg Adams. Adam made his NHL debut as the Devils in the year 1984-85. He says he feels great to be a part of the game and considers his team members an inspiration for him. He has a 17
year career, which has the trip of 1994 Finals with Vancouver as well.
The longest drive of the day was the shot by David Clarkson, which had a yardage of 295. On the other hand, the head coach John MacLean, had the shot of 285 yards. Kevin Dean held the prize for closest to the pin. The Trenton head coach attained the title
at the 8S with the distance of 5 feet, whereas Grant Marshal had his closest to hole at 8W. This, he achieved with a distance of 7 feet 5 inches.
The top position on the Leader Board was held by the squad of Arnott, whereas the second place was achieved by the Colin White’s group. At 10 under par, three teams were seen tied due to which the tie-breakers had to determine the cards. The Co-owner Mike
Gilfillan who was in the Brian Rolston’s team ended up in the third place.
The Devils home preseason schedule is all set and will be starting from the 25th of September. The schedule is against the Rangers and the regular season will be opened at the 8th of October. It will unbolt at the prudential Centre,
while hosting the Stars. It is believed that the Rock will be presenting a rocking display this fall with the presence of Seton Hall hoops and the Nets. Over 215 events are already scheduled, which leaves the association a busy schedule ahead.
