Golf news - Jeev Milkha Singh displays poor performance after recovery
Indian Golfers can’t seem to display a good play this season. The current 2010 Omega European Masters in Switzerland includes 6 Indian golfers playing for the win. Among them, Jeev Milkha Singh displayed a tolerable performance in the earlier round but in R2 he missed a cut along with his 5 Indian fellows. The Omega European Tour will continue till the 5th of September with a total prize fund of two million Euros. The defending champion is Alexander Noren.
At the end of round one, Jeev Milkha Singh achieved a one under 70. Singh is the winner of the Asian Tour 2006 as well as 2008, but the Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club saw Singh regretting his cold putter.
It had taken Singh three months to get back to his form again. Singh faced a shoulder rotator cuff injury, which resulted in him missing a week of the last 9 tournaments he had to play. Before the start of the Omega Open 2010 Jeev told that he is facing a fast recovery and will be able to play a game worth watching. Singh explained that now he is able to release the club, and move the ball in a much better way and has plans to win the coming event, which is just about time.
Singh’s confidence before the Omega open did take him through round one, but the second round of the event is going to need much more than just confidence and recovery. The 38-year-old played the first round with two birdies along with a bogey in the last hole. In round two, Singh hovered on 2 over 73.
After R1 Singh seemed disappointed with the way he played. Making a bogey at the last hole displayed the fact that his hit and aim were working in different ways. He said that his last hole summed up his entire play and although he was hitting the ball hard with his club, the hole he aimed at didn’t work at all.
With Jeev Milkha Singh, Shiv Kapur was the only Indian player who stuck to two under 69 but that remained for only a while ending up below the cut as well. Kapur played 4 birdies and some bogeys, which took him 2 strokes below the cut at 143.
Milkha Singh had his card much like Shiv Kapur in round one. The second round, however, wasn’t much the same. Singh played 2 bogeys at first and then a double bogey at the back nine. The 38-year-old is trying his level best to get out of the bad conditions he is facing and admits that the previous year and a half had been rather tough on him, which has not only affected him but his game a well.
According to the critics, if Jeev Singh works really hard and sharpens up his game, the win is right there. Birdies reside in the same green fields he will be playing, all he needs to do is go out and get them. Fast.
Along with Singh and Kapur, Bhullar lingered on 71; he played a total of 6 birdies and a pair of bogey followed by a double bogey. Muniyappa in R2 finished at 76 at 147. Chowrasia managed to play only a single birdie in round two. His round one included 8 bogeys along with a double bogey ending up at 81, 12 over 154.
The leader-board is currently being led by Minguel Angel Jimnez with an impressive minus 14. He has a three stroke lead over the second place players. The leader holds 6 birdies and stands at ten under 61 along with a couple of eagles. E. Molinari and M. Manassero are tied at second place with a minus 11, and Mikko llonel is striving at the top with minus 10 in hand at the third place.
According to Singh, all he needs to do is work on his putting abilities but critics suggest that he start working on the way he judges the pace so that he can make use of the fine form he has regained after the injury.
