Golf news: Paul Casey got his eyes on Tour Championship trophy
Although he is the Runner up at the BMW championship, Paul Casey might be the new richest player if he wins the Tour championship which is taking place this Thursday at the East Lake, Atlanta.
Paul Casey the current world number eight has his eyes on the next trophy and if he wins it, then his net worth will be £7.3 million. The Tour Championship which is due this week in Atlanta is carrying the winner prize, which will help the British reach the top of FedEx standings. However, the same prize money can be won by Luke Donald, Martin Laird and Justin Rose, depending upon their performances.
Despite of bearing the loss of the BMW Championship which took place last week in Chicago, Paul Casey is all set to move into the final leg of the FedEx Cup play-offs. It is strange that this player is getting opportunities like these to show what Europe will be missing in the Ryder Cup. Casey missed the last Ryder cup and then he did not get the wild card from Colin Montgomerie. The worst, he got another chance last week but he missed his moment after posting three bogeys in the finishing holes of the back nine. That cost him a playoff, which he eventually lost to Dustin Johnson.
If a detailed analysis of the player’s performance is done then fans will see that he performed consistently well throughout the four-day session. He carded 68 in all four rounds and if it was not his last round, this player would have won the tournament. The bogeys at the 13th, 14th and 15th hole with a birdie by Dustin Johnson on the 17th hole led to a one-stroke defeat at Cog Hill.
Ironically he was not picked for the Ryder cup, when he was standing at the 9th place according to the official world golf ranking. Currently he is the top fifth on the FedEx Cup points list, which signifies that if he is successful in achieving a victory at East Lake, then he will be entitled to £875,000 first prize. Moreover, if he becomes lucky then he might end up bagging £6.5million that goes to the overall winner of the series.
Talking to the media, Casey said that the loss at Cog Hills was bigger than not getting the wild card from the captain. He further added that he played well and it was only a matter of one stroke that got him the second position, rest he was satisfied that he was one of the tough contenders against the course with par 72.
Luke Donald who finished as a runner-up at the Deutsche bank Championship can also avail the bonus prize provided he wins the tournament and two of his major competitors do not finish in the second place. Donald is standing at the seventh place in the Fed Ex standings and he is followed by Scott Martin Laird, who is ninth in the standings. Laird requires a finish in the lead to avail the sum of £6.5million. In case Matt Kuchar does not end in the first three spots with Johnson and Hoffman in the top two would guarantee Liard’s Bonus. Somehow similar requirements apply for Justin Ross as well. Firstly Ross has to win with Matt Kuchar out of the top seven, Johnson out of the top four and Hoffman, Steve Stricker and Casey out of top two.
A bird’s eye view is that Paul Casey is heading towards the final playoff event, which is taking place at the East Lake Atlanta. Casey finished as a runner-up at the BMW championship, but despite being only one stroke away from the lead he is ready to compete for the trophy, so that he can make Colin Montgomerie realize that he will be missing out a living legend at Celtic Manor.
