Golf news: Posco E & C Songdo Championship is a good omen for the future of golf in Asia
The Champions Tour 2010 is now headed towards Asia where golfers like Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus have already predicted the future of golf in that region. According to Watson and Nicklaus, golf certainly has an intensely bright future in Asia.
Watson is included in the group, which is scheduled to tee-off in the upcoming Posco E and C Songdo Championship. Watson is in a set of 57 players, all eager for the playoff, which will be starting this Friday. The golf club where the tee-off is scheduled is designed by Nicklaus. The event to be held on the 10th of September is the 20th of the Schwab Cup events numbering to 26.
During the press conference held yesterday, Bernhard Langer dealt with the reporters and their questions. The conference was held in regard to the tour due at September 10th to 12th. The Songdo Championship will be held at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club situated at the west of Seoul, South Korea which is the first tournament to be played in the Asian Continent.
The Jack Nicklaus Golf Club in the city of Incheon will hold the Championship on Friday and is a 7087-yard club with a 72 Par course.
The Songdo Championship has a total purse of 3 million dollars, which will hand the winner a dollar amount of 455,000.
According to Watson, Asia is a market which is fantastic for golf. He explained his previous comment by stating that Asia has a culture and work ethic, which fits the eastern countries perfectly. Watson is a known professional with victories like The Masters, British Open and the US Open. His future endeavours include Japan and South Korea with the expectation of making China the future market for International Pro Golf.
According to Nicklaus, Asia has impressed him manifolds with its superb quality of game. By saying the word ‘very’ two times, he said that Asia is another distinguished part of world which, during time, has produced players that play a ‘very’ good game and are able to move well on the world circuit. He said that in near future, golf in this continent would see massive growth for which the Olympics would be the one to applaud for.
Recapping the Asian talent in golf, reports show South Korean Y.E Yang playing against Tiger Woods in 2009. The South Korean stood victorious against Woods at the PGA Championship.
In the coming year of 2016, Golf will be marked as an official Olympic game at Rio de Janiero.
Coming back to the Champions trophy, Nicklaus has declared that the greens of Asia will be a challenge for the players fighting for the top spot. He says that the green area where the game is due to be held will have quite a movement in it that is a bit of a challenge, a bit of a zing and a whole lot of complexity. Nicklaus says that the course would provide a certain degree of difficulty but this in no way means that the score can’t go low. However, he added that he expects good scores.
Among the competitors for the upcoming Posco E and C Songdo Championship, other than Watson, golfers like Bernhard Langer and Mark O’Meara will be appearing in the field as well. Nicklaus will not be playing the Championship.
Bernhard Langer is the winner of Masters 2 times and the Champion Tour 5 times. Due to Langer’s exceptional performance, he has been able to become the first golfer to accomplish such an amazing mark. Before Langer it was Craig Stadler in 2004.
O’Meara, the winner of Master and British Open of 1988 says he is all-ready to play the upcoming championship. According to O’Meara, he is thrilled to play in a place with such a zing in it. After playing the golf course on the day before the conference, he says that the course has a very pleasant layout and Jack has done a good job.
