The University of Colorado Women’s Golf team won the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic 2010 on Tuesday. The victory was achieved with Emily Talley finishing second on the leader board, matching her school record.
Since 2008, the golf match at the Ptarmigan Country club is the first Buffalo team win. In 2008, the win materialized at the Wolfdancer in Texas State Challenge. The current score Buffs team achieved stands as the second best in the history of this school. The team scored a total of 852 with 1 over par. The best score the school has achieved was a 12 under par in the year 2008. Talley matched the school record when she very efficiently managed a 209 with a 7 under par. This she achieved after a shot of 2 under par 70 on Tuesday. The record Talley matched was a record for most strokes below the par and fewest strokes in the tournament.
The top two schools fighting for the top spot were Colorado and California, making the tournament an extremely interesting play. The entire round was a battle with only a stroke ahead by the Buffs with the Californian Bears. According to the CU’s performance in the final round, the buffs managed a finish of 287 with a 1 under par. The overall finish by the Buffs stood at 864 with 1 over par.
According to the Leader board, Colorado topped the index with scores of 288, 290, 287 and hence 865 at the end. Cal finished with a 3 over par with an even par. School Oregon was standing with five strokes behind California at 872. The top five on the leader board listed Louisville and Baylor 873 and 874, with a difference of only two strokes.
According to the Buffs coach Anne Kelly, she knew it would be extremely close but with the heart that the team showed, she was happy. The coach said that there wasn’t anything to be nervous about and with the win at hand, it was marked a great opening for the season. When the assistant coach Brent Franklin told coach that the sophomore Taylor Doyle, had achieved a birdie in the last hole, she knew they were the winners. She knew it was intense and wasn’t sure about the total score but her gut feelings told her that they would be the winners.
Talley played a game worth applaud, since she stayed under par in all rounds one, two and three. Talley is at number two by achieving such under par in her school record along with that she now has a total of career rounds counting to 12, which ties in the school. Other than these records, a new one emerged when Talley top 20 finishing streak to seven continued unabated.
At the 3rd, Talley managed an amazing eagle on a par 4 hole at the final round of the tournament. The ball was hit from a distance of 128 yards, which landed straight into the cup. According to Talley, all she focused on was to hit the ball in the middle of the green, since it could easily draw in but thankfully it landed right in.
Individually, the Buffs had three players who made the top of the boards. Meaghan Kari was one player who ended up tied at the 81st; she had a total of 259. Devin Dougherty ended at the 83rd place with a 242. Jamie Befort ended the game with the 88th place with a 245.
