Golf problem?

im reguraly a good golfer scoering low 40's - high 30's... im 14 and tonight im going golfing with my dad... im gonna do good right? hopfully. but when i go golfing with my dad i get nervous and normally score high 40's - mid 50's how can i golf better around my dad?

  1. take one shot at a time and just worry about hitting the ball straight and not far. dont try to over hit. If you stay on the fairway you will do just fine.

  3. Don't be nervous - keep reminding urself that u play golf for fun. You play golf for fun, right? lol... =) whenever i play golf, i get rly good full swings when i'm enjoying it, not worrying about impressing anyone. it's the samething with everything - say that ur playing the guitar in front of someone. u mess up several times and u sound worse than u regularly do b/c ur nervous - it's normal. don't think about impressing ur dad - remember to enjoy playing golf. it'll be fine! u seem like a great golf player! go out there and enjoy! =D

  4. The problem is that you are thinking too much when you play with your dad. Just hit the ball, don't think about it. You can''t hit and think at the same time, that'swhat Yogi Bera used to say. Good luck.

  5. Hmmm i would think you would be more comfortable around your dad, but anyway pretend like you are playing for a million dollars and try your absolute hardest

Golf is 90% a mental game.  When you are hitting bad shots where you normally don't, the MAJOR cause is nerves.  I think you are probably trying too hard to play better golf when you are with your dad in fear of ...??  criticism? look bad?  or what ever it might be.  Think of it this way, Golf is a one person game where you are competing against your best ability.  Your dad hits bad shots every now-and-then too, so don't be so critical of yourself when you are playing with your dad.  Just play your game... think about the shot at hand instead of how you would look in front of him, take a slow, deep, breath, relax your muscles, take a couple practice swings to get your mind into the swing and ONLY about the swing... you'll be amazed at the result.

  7. Take it as a challenge.   The nervousness you describe only gets worse as you may be playing competitive golf in high school.
