We are 12 golfers that wish to play a competition. We will play 4 rounds of golf in groups of 4. I need all players to play each other at least once but preferably no more than twice. Can anyone work out if this is possible.

Players - 1,2,3,4

Players - 5,6,7,8

Players - 9,10,11,12,

Thats the first round sorted. Can anyone work out the other 3 rounds.

Thanks.

  1. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE BUT U CAN PLAY LIKE THIS

    1,5,9,4

    2,6,10,8

    3,11,7,12

  2. After the first round why not put them out in leader board order just like the Pro's??

  3. First of all it is not possible for all 12 to play each other individually as you would need 11 rounds.  I assume you will all play Individual Stableford or Strokeplay.  I would recommend the groups for four rounds as follows:

Round 1 - as per your list.

    Round 2 - 1,5,9,10.  2,7,11,12.   3,6,8,4.

    Round 3 - 3,6,11,1   4,7,5,10.     2,9,12,8.

    Round 4 - 8,10,9,4.   1,6,12,5.     2,3,11,7

It is complicated but at least everyone gets 4 rounds, some will see each other twce some only the once.

I would recommend Strokeplay with full handicaps deducted after each round and displayed in a table.  It has worked for my husband many times.  Good luck and Fore!
