Question:

Golf rules on the green.?

I am wondering if there is a rule against putting two hands or knees on the ground when lining up a putt... or else, why would Camilo Villegas go through the awkward Spider-man move?

Thank you.

  1. What you are talking about does not constitute a breach of the rules at all.

  2. It allows his eyes to get closer to the ground to see the break.

  3. As so far as I know, there is no rule that says that you have to have your feet planted on the ground when making a putt.  When Camilo Villegas made his akward stance, I think that he was just trying to stay out of another players line to the hole.

  4. You may crab crawl if you wish, so long as you do nothing to your intended line of putt and the extension thereof.

  5. No rules violation.  I think Camillo does it:

    1) to avoid making any large indentations on the greens, cause pros are very very fussy

    2) to show off all his muscles

    3) to create a name for himself amongst all the vanilla pros out there

    4) because he can (try it - it's not easy)

  6. There is nothing in the rules about you must to standing on two feet when reading putts etc, there is nothing wrong with the "spider-man" move

You can't mess with you line e.g. using the putter to flaten the ground for the line. Although if you have something like an old pitch mark in the way you can ask your playing partners to fix it.

You can move around old holes, (I am now going off topic alittle)

  7. No, it is certainly not against the rules, however, touching your line or through line(past the hole) with your putter is.
