If you are in a sand bunker and after you hit your shot out of the bunker, are you still required not to ground your club or touch the sand when you ball is no longer in the bunker?

  1. You can touch sand if you want you will see pros. even out the sand after a shot.

  2. No, you can ground your club so long as the ball left that bunker.  You can build a castle with your sand wedge if you wish.  Once, Payne Stewart hit a shot from a large bunker. He the ball about 120 yards but it came up short of the green and in the same bunker.  He took a practice swing and hit the sand. Oops-2 stroke penalty.

  3. There aren't any restrictions on touching the sand after the ball is out of the bunker.

  4. The above answers are correct, but as an aside, be careful with rakes in bunkers.  Don't touch the rake in a bunker until after the ball is out of the bunker.  The exception is if the rake interfeers with your stroke or stance.

For this reason rakes should be left out of the bunker.

Also you can't touch the sand with your fingers or remove stones.  Pros can, because it is a PGA rule.

  5. gp is exactly right.  love the payne stewart reference too.  he is surely missed.
