monday i went to the golf course. at around the 6th hole my brother was putting and I was holding the flag. when he putted he hit the pole of the flag which was about 2 inches away from the hole it stopped the ball giving him a very easy second put. my question is should I have taken a stroke or is it just something you just leave alone

  1. Two stroke penalty on your brother for hitting the stick.  I am not hiring you as my caddie.

  2. You shouldn't have to take the stroke. Your brother will have 2 strokes for hitting the flags. However if he is on the fringe, it should be no stoke.

  3. Interesting question.  I think nobody is getting a stroke.  As you did it by mistake and you are not his partner (as in his caddie, or team) so he doesn't take a stroke either.

But why would you hold the flag so close to the hole anyway?

  4. Under the official rules, if a player hits the flagstick while putting it is a two stroke penalty for the person who is putting (your brother). He would play his next stroke from where the ball stopped. (Rule 17-3)

This applies even if the person holding the flag is your opponent. Since you were attending the flag with his approval, it would also be a penalty (for him) if he was off the green and hit the stick.

When you attend the flag, you should be very careful to remove the flag from the hole before the ball gets there, and make sure the ball won't hit it.

If you lay the flag on the green and the ball looks like it will hit the stick, you can move the stick out of the way before the ball hits it. That is a new rule this year.

  5. 2 stroke penalty on the person who putted the ball.  A putted ball cannot touch the flagstick, no matter where it is.

Thumbs down for the correct answer...thats hilarious.

  6. in real golf rules....the person who putted gets a 2 stroke penalty and then they will probably hit u with their putter so dont let it happen again

  7. You care enough to tend the flagstick but not enough to watch the shot? That's a new one.

  8. well before you start golfing you should know golf etiquett. You always put the flag far enough away so that dosent happen. If you put the flag there its your fault. no stroke taken.
