Golf set - Orlimar Black Ice any good?

I'm looking to buy a new set of gold clubs. I'd say I'm in between a beginner and a novice. Was looking at the Orlimar Black Ice complete set at $299. Wondering if anyone has them and can let me know about them or if anyone has used Orlimars in the past. Thanks!

  1. I have a set of Orlimar irons and wedges (not the ones you mention). I really like mine. I'll definitely buy another set from them when the time comes. I also am between beginner and novice and they fit me pretty well. They're durable and have a good weight and feel to them.

  2. Orlimar used to be one of the top fairway wood manufacturers.  Jesse Ortiz (now working for Bobby Jones Golf Co.) used to be the lead designer of Orlimars's famous Tri-Metal fairway woods.  Ever since they discontinued their Tri-Metal fairway wood line and Mr. Ortiz started that funny Bobby Jones informercial, they've been losing their place in the golf market.  And personally, I wouldn't recommend Orlimar's product anymore.  Can't trust their quality or their playability.  By the way, I still have 2 Tri-Metal fairway woods that I still love.  :-)

I recommend picking up a used set of Callaway X-14 irons from Ebay or CallawayPreowned.  The best X-series ever made by Callaway and is perfect for any beginners.  Obviously, the set will not have a driver, fairway wood, sand wedge or putter.  However, a set of 8 irons will be sufficient to solidify your golf swing and play many rounds if you can pick up a cheap putter.  Believe me.  You will love these irons.

Also, Callaway clubs tend to have a high resale value just in case you need to sell them.  If there's anything wrong with the club (broken shaft, ripped grips, etc), call the customer service.  Ask anyone who's dealt with Callaway....they are top notch when it comes to customer service.

    Good luck.
