What is the role of your hips on a back swing? Are they supposed to stay still or turn back slightly during the backswing?

  1. right hip back for power

  2. The hips will slightly turn on your backswing.

Just remember to keep your back leg stable....ie., the same position at address during your backswing.  If your back leg goes to the right (for right handers) during your backswing, that's a no-no and it's called swaying.

I'm a lefty who's fighting swaying.  Just found out how bad I was doing it at a lesson last Thursday.

  3. YOUR HIPS ARE THE PIVOT POINT OF YOUR SWING, YOUR BODY MUST COIL AROUND YOUR HIPS AS FAR AS POSSIBLE TO CREATE A POWERFUL SWING...

  4. They turn slightly on the backswing (no more than about 30 degrees) while the shoulders turn 90 degrees.  This difference is the coil of resistance that sets up power on the downswing.

  5. there is alot of talk about 'coiling up' and 'creating resistants' at the moment. it doesnt matter wat ur swing looks like how much u turn as long as it works for u. id advise finding a teacher who views things the same way and helps u find the swing that works all u gotta do is look at the pga tour to c that there are so many ways to swing a club and make it work. furyk micleson ryan moore  garcia

  6. They are supposed to rotate but if you think about it too much you will end up making a mess of things.

What I like to do with my back swing is to remember to turn my back on the target. If you have turned your back on the target your hips will have rotated the correct amount.
