at my school i can tryout for a golf team and i am 13 and dont have to tryout for another year but i am just wondering. my school isnt serious about golf but i wanna know what it would require to make the team. my neighbor that was on the team said all you have to do is shoot under 100 but i dont believe him. i shoot in the mid 90's and take lessons. so far i have played some of my friends which are some of the better golfers in our school and i beat them by 5 strokes. any tips or requirements for making the team?????

P.S. i still have all next summer to practice too.

  1. It sounds like you are as good or better than most of the other kids on the team already, so you shouldn't worry.  Just keep practicing, playing and improving and you should make your team.  But don't let that be your only goal, strive to be the best on your team breaking 80 for 18 holes every time out, win conference, regional, state etc.  Don't limit yourself to just making the team.  The higher you set your goals the more you can achieve.

  2. if you are shooting in the 90's you will make the team easily. But you would need to shoot in the low 80's to be any good on a highschool team.

  3. Shoot in the 80's if you want to compete in your league. If you shoot in the 90's you will make the team, but you won't beat anybody in you leauge. Try to get better and never give up.

  4. It depends on how many other kids are trying out, and how many kids are already on the team. I would think the better players on a golf team should be shooting even par, maybe a bit more. I doubt they will cut someone for shooting in the 90's, because that is a pretty good score compared to what most people shoot. They will probably decide by your score, but also by how much raw talent you appear to have. If the coach is good, he/she will be able to tell a good golfer from a bad golfer, even without looking at their final score. I would hope you could drop 5-10 strokes by next year, and if you do so, you'll have a sure spot on the team.
