Question:

Golf tournament scramble predicament?

My four man team played in a four-man best ball scramble. We witnessed the team in front of us hit a ball from out of bounds. The team turned in the score card that withheld the violation and placed second. They were awarded a plaque and $15 dollars each. We addressed this to the coordinator and after inquiring, the team admitted hitting the ball. They stated that they thought they were told they could play anything as long it was not in someones yard. We are now kind of being attacked for not bringing it up during the tourney. What would you golfers out there have done?

  1. If you observed a violation of the rules, it is difficult to call the foursome to task for you were not aware of the manner in which the infraction was recorded . However, if they hit the ball from out of bounds and you observed it and they did not hit any other ball from within bounds, you were aware of the infraction which should have been called to their attention immediately. Sometimes , you just have to take flak for not being diligent enough.

  2. it's a workplace tournament.

    who cares?

the most important thing is getting 120% schwamboozled out on the course by drinking until you drop.

but if you're actually playing for score, then you should've addressed the score keepers BEFORE they posted the scores.

and if you're REALLY playing for scores, you should've had someone grab a score keeper before they finished the hole, which they should be dq'd for not playing from the correct place, and then teeing off on the next hole.

  3. That's what you get when you play for a plaque and 15 bucks. Let it go. Beat them next year.
