Golf update, Goa to have a golf club
Goa’s government has given permission for a golf club set up in Taluka.
According to a press release, floated Expression of Interest (EOI) has been given to the district authorities for the set up of a golf facility in northern Taluka, which is a hill station in Goa.
The locale is known as a tourist attraction and chances are that a premium quality golf club will savour the earnings in the area.
Nilkant Halarnkar, the state tourism minister addressed a press conference on Wednesday, 15th December. He said that three parties have contacted the concerned authorities for the bid. However, dates for the open bid session are yet to be finalized after which the interested parties will formally present their proposal.
According to Halarnkar, "The state will not bear any liability of the facility. We will be just licensing it and a private firm will have to construct its own infrastructure of water and gas to maintain it”.
The golf facility will be opened in Pernem Taluka, 30 kilometers away from Panaji. The tourism ministry earlier exclaimed that a facility of such type was required in the state, as it bought in foreign investment.
Goa is a major tourist attraction spot in India. The city is known for its beaches and nightlife but lacks a golf club. Golf is a primary form of entertainment for elites visiting the area. Once colonized by Europeans, Goa is the second biggest foreign investment grabber after Agra, which shines with the beauty of Taj Mahal.
Halarnkar stated, "We want to get them to Goa too. For that, the state needs to put up facilities required for them. But a batch of tourists from Japan will be visiting Goa on 18th December for inspection. Further details will be provided after their assessment”.
Goa will be having its own golf club by the end of 2015. The ministry of tourism made it official, by releasing the Expression of Interest in its favour. However, who gets the tender for the construction is a key variable, which will decide the quality, of the golf club.
