Golf update - Padraig comes back to life at Barclays
The second round of the Barclays, which is taking place at the Ridgewood country club, flies away leaving Padraig Harrington with a 68 and a hope that he might be the lucky card that gets picked up by the hands of the Captain.
Fans and media were expecting something extraordinary from Tiger woods’ but instead Padraig Harrington came up and shocked everyone including the captain of the Ryder team that he still had some magic left in him.
Padraig Harrington is relying on the wild card pick of Colin Montgomerie, as he has not qualified the automatic selection of the Ryder cup team. However, to grab the attention of the captain Pad had to perform extraordinary at the course and this is what he did. He opened the round with the previous day’s 69 and closed it with a 68. Moreover, Padraig is standing only three shots away from the leader of the day John Senden who scored a 6 under. This signifies that if the Dubliner puts in more effort he can be the winner of the first playoff and the winner of the playoff will surely see his dreams of representing his continent come true.
According to the media reports, Padraig had to attend the playoffs as this is the only chance which is left with him to get a confirmation from the captain, as earlier the player missed the cut in the USPGA championship that took place at the whistling straits last week. Furthermore, he needs to finish in the top 10 to catch the eye of success or else he will be put off from the series.
Talking to the press, Padraig Harrington said that he believed that Colin Montgomerie should make a decision keeping in view the overall scenario, not just the current performance of the player. Although the current form of the player counts but this isn’t everything that can determine the potential o f a player. After reading this notion one can smell hard feelings and criticism taking a toll, if Padraig Harrington is not picked up by the captain.
While performing on the greens, Padraig Harrington started out loud with six birdies; however, down the lane in back nine he posted three bogeys which cancelled the effect on the scorecard, dropping him all the way to five under par. Although the spot taken after posting a five under is not bad but this is the penultimate event of the season, which means all the players taking part in it are here for only one reason and that is to take a chance. If Padraig Harrington does not do anything here then he won’t be able to do anything at all.
Moving to the other high achievers of the day, John Senden started out so fast that it seemed he was sponsored by some energy drink. The Australian birdied the first four holes of the front nine reaching the score of eight under par surging into lead by passing Kevin Streelman and Tiger Woods who were strangely the leaders of the previous day.
As for the most happening man in the news Tiger Woods, he is in the mood to give high voltage shocks to people around him, as at one time he is at the top of the Barclay leaderboard with 6 under and now is standing nowhere in the top-half of the leaderboard. Tiger Woods posted a score of 3 over 73 after starting the day with the tenth hole and two birdies but later he bogeyed the second hole and returned the two shots, which he had earned earlier in the day.
This is it for the second round of the Barclays in which few players gave their best and few relied on their luck to strike back. Padraig was one of the players who performed Superb although 67 is not a magnificent score but with huge pressure mounting up, hats off to the player for his remarkable performance.
