Golf writer Jaime Diaz picked to receive PGA Lifetime Achievement Award
PGA Tour has announced that Jaime Diaz, a prolific writer associated with Golf Digest, will be honoured with the PGA of America Lifetime Achievement Award, in recognition of his services to journalism.
Diaz will be the 23rd person to receive the prestigious award. Jaime Diaz's association with Golf Digest runs back years.
Starting his journalism career in 1989 as a golf reporter, Diaz proved his worth among leading writers. The 58-year-old journalist has been covering a variety of golf events.
The number of major championships he has covered so far is over 100, which reflects that he has a solid foothold in the field of sports journalism.
Diaz’s writing style is quite distinct when compared with his peers. In one of his articles about Tiger Woods’s return to game, he wrote: “Woods' comeback from his humiliating scandal has been mostly marked by strained smiles, forced pleasantries, a lot
of avoidance and very little good play”.
Diaz, thrilled about being singled out as the 23rd recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award, said that he was glad his writings are being appreciated by observers and readers.
He stated that he never felt that he was alone in providing his services to golf, as there have been plenty of persons who assisted him.
Diaz went on to say that he worked with key golfers, which boosted his confidence.
"I've probably been the luckiest golf writer in terms of where I've had the opportunity to work and who I've worked with," he said.
Speaking about his time with Golf Digest, Diaz shared that he was proud that he has had an opportunity to work with one of the leading golf magazines.
He said he has been working under the patronage of well-known golf journalists.
"I've been especially fortunate at Golf Digest, where Jerry Tarde and his fellow editors are so supportive in allowing me to write in-depth articles about the important figures and issues in the game".
Recently, he participated in the Golf Writers Association of America's Annual Writing Contest and stood first.
In addition to his writing skills, Diaz has been well versed in how to promote the sport. His latest book is "The Big Miss: My Years Coaching Tiger Woods," which was written in collaboration with Hank Haney. The book covers Haney's time with Tiger Woods
as a coach.
