Golfer shot upon at Deerfield Country Club
A golfer was shot in the back during a robbery attempt at the Deerfield Country Club in Florida on Thursday evening.
A 35-year-old golfer was near the 17th hole with another golfer when two masked men who had been hiding in nearby bushes, came out and tried to rob them. Soon after, the two men opened fire which left one of the golfers seriously injured.
The greenkeeper, who is witness to the case, called the police at 6.30 pm and reported the whole incident. The police reached the venue at 6.45 pm and rushed the man who was bleeding profusely to the North Broward Medical Centre, which was the nearest hospital
in the vicinity.
Greenkeeper Nicole McCarthy said, “At 6.30 in the evening, two men whose faces were masked in black came out of the bushes on the 17th green and started talking to the two golfers. They seemed like robbers. A few minutes later, they opened gunfire
on the player. As soon as they found him lying in blood, they flee from the scene. We called the police, who later took the charge of the case.”
Mike Jachles, a spokesperson from the Sheriff’s office told the press that the name of the victim could not be disclosed because of a political reason. He also refused to comment on the reason behind the murder attempt. However, the hospital staff told the
media that the patient underwent a surgery and was in critical condition.
The police started the search mission right after the case was reported. They used a helicopter and K9 search teams to search the golf course, which is located on top of Hillsboro Boulevard. Despite looking extensively, they failed to find the suspects.
The spokesperson from the Sheriff’s office added that the reason behind the failure of search mission was lack of complete information. The police did not have the description of the robbers and therefore, they could not find them. However, the flying squad
reported two men running towards the residential area at 7.00 pm.
Several crimes like this have been reported in the past on various golf courses, owing to lack of security.
