Golfers, where's the best place to get recommendations for local courses?

Where would I go, or who would I talk to to find out where the best course are near where I live?

Visit the pro shop at the local muni or private course and ask. They should have all the scoop on adjacent courses and those which are public. Also, look in the  phone book yellow pages. There is always a listing of both private and public courses. And go visit the nearest public course. Most pro shop staffs are most cooperative in answering your questions.

A local golf store would help. Sometimes the person manning the golf area of a sporting goods store is a good choice.

I have just moved to new area and went into a couple of golf shops today to see what they said.  got some really good advice - important as I am a woman who can only play at the weekend.

As people who work in shop talk to lots of local golfers they know lots of liitle nuggets of onfo about local clubs - even about social life!
