  1. I'll check out what the hub-ub is all about, but steroids and golf don't really make sense... Golf and any form of sedative, now that makes a bit more sense.

See, in golf you need smooth unwinding of muscles, not raw strength.  Of course, temptation of better wining through chemistry (and buying a better game through the latest fad in equipment) is just human nature.  No one seems to really want to work hard anymore.  JMHO

  2. i think what some of you guys are forgetting is that steroids aren't always used simply to bulk up like a linebacker. Many "perfomance-enhancing drugs" will aid in the recovery of muscle-building and speeding up recovery from injuries.

Golfers are hitting it farther today because of the fitness and flexibilty aspect of the sport. Certain drugs will definitely be able to help some become more flexible and stronger, and help them to do it faster.

True, steroids and other performance enhancers won't help you hit the ball better (the old baseball argument), but it can easily prolong the length that a golfer is in his "prime".

  3. Butch Harmon (Tiger's former teacher, currently working with Mickelson among others) has said that it is naive to think that at least one professional golfer hasn't used (or at worst, considered) HGH/steroids/performance enhancing drugs.

Fairly reasoned statement.  Of the two "major" tours (US PGA and European Tour), plus the second tier tours, the third tier, etc...it is fairly reasoned to think that some (not all, not most) of these guys (or their female equivalents) haven't, at some point, dabbled in this stuff.

  4. I've heard about this in the past. With the way sports are these days, just about anything is possible. An extra 25 yard drive per hole goes a long way in a tourny.

  5. Mandatory testing is supposed to start this year some time I believe.  There were no suspicions of anyone using performance enhancing drugs, but Gary Player stated he knew someone that may be using.
