Golfers discuss the Tanjong and the Serapong GC 2010

The Barclays Singapore Open scheduled from the 11th to the 14th of November backed up by the European Tour and will take place in two courses, the Tanjong course and the Serapong course. From a field of 204 players, Ian Poulter, Phil Mickelson and Martin Kaymer
discuss what the course is all about. Graeme McDowell on the other hand is a bit worried about the temperature.
The first round of the event had been the victim of rain and lightning earlier but resumed after the conditions subsided.
Considering the format and the courses, only a few players were able to make it to the practice rounds and Ian Poulter didn’t take it as a big deal. According to the thirty four year old, he didn’t get much of the Tanjong golf
course at the game. He said that all he got from the golf course was Poulter and his caddie walking towards the field, looking at it and that’s just about it.
About the GC, Poulter said that playing a golf course blind is something most professionals have done before. Of course this sometimes worked for them and then sometimes went against the individual playing. That’s golf.
As far as Phil Mickelson is concerned, he’s highly excited by the mere thought of playing at such a field. The lefty is said to be completely delighted to play in a city where the fervour of golf is mounting day by day.
According to Mickelson, if the growth of golf is compared between America and Singapore, then the U.S. can’t take many marks here. The forty year old said that it very pleasing to see a large number of Asian players playing golf.
So it’s growing in Asia, but in the US it’s just stagnant.
Coming over to Martin Kaymer, he had been the only golfer who went and took a good look at the course. His assessment had thus enabled him to shape what most players need- no irons. The twenty five year old observed that the course
will force the players to use drivers, which means that the low irons and three woods have no business here.
So those that are considered hard hitters and those who know their good irons are in for an advantage at The Barclays Singapore Open.
The world ranked number ten Graeme McDowell isn’t that much concerned about the course and has advised golfers to conserve their energy a bit. He said that the heat is intense and the last time he played in Singapore, he felt the
need to save up some “oomph”.
Update:
According to the latest leader board statistics, Chris Wood is leading the Singapore Open and is through 9th hole. He has collected 31 strokes at the first round and has carded a minus 5 till now. Phil Mickelson is at
T23 after his 4th hole and has played 15 strokes in total.
