Golfers the crowd just love - Part II
If the fans could make a list of all the Fan-friendly golfers out there Stewart Cink, Bubba Watson Woody Austin and Rich Beem wouldn’t be missed. However these players would be at the bottom of the list, there are still many players who have made it to the top of the list.
At number six Fred Funk stands with his funky workmanlike way. Funk is known as a man who plays his silky smooth swings with straight drives. He has been a fan favourite for many years on the PGA and his scores also speak for themselves. Funk has no difficulty in using his swing to roll the ball with his stick. Reason behind Funks friendliness could be his time spent as golf Coach in the University of Maryland plus the fact that he respects those who root for him each week.
Halfway up the fan list, John Daly represents the daily average guy. Daly is a genuinely nice person who is much respected because of general kind behaviour. Daly would always stop for handing a child an autograph and would never miss a chance to entertain his fans with a witty comment. Many fans love him because they resemble him more than any other athlete while consciously ignoring his problems such as his being overweight, a struggling husband and his fighting the bottle off and on.
Fred Couples is a stark example of how to make fans by being friendly with them. He fits into the next-door neighbour persona perfectly and that’s what gets most of the fans going. Originally from Seattle he has been playing PGA since 1980 in a very consistent manner. He has an extremely cordial attitude towards his fans and his warm demeanour hits home with most of the fans.
The top three spots in the fan-friendly list is Jerry Kelly with his happy go lucky attitude with life, Rocco Mediate with his extreme audacity and Phil Mickelson with his all smiling generous nature.
Kelly is a man with extreme wealth and no arrogance. If there was a catalogue for people who aren’t big-headed, Kelly would be on that list. His wealth doesn’t seem to affect him at all which is proved by his act of signing autographs even between holes. Kelly is known to be a solid Golfer but an even better guy.
Mediate displayed his golfing skills in the 2008 US Open making it the most memorable for those who actually watched it. The average Joe pranced through the holes with back to back birdies, and with Tiger Woods right behind him, he didn’t falter for one minute. Mediate has had a roller coaster ride of a career and knows his fan following thereby having the knowledge of how to keep them interested. Mediate can keep his fans laughing continuously.
At the top of the fan list is Phil Mickelson, with his highly interactive game play, even when he has reached the apex of his game. Even though the lefty is one of those who know how to rule the game, his ego is still smaller than him. Mickelson is nowhere close to being egoistical, his humble attitude is displayed when he constantly grins to the avid fans that follow him everywhere he goes in the golf course.
Mickelson is sometimes seen signing autographs even on tee shots that don’t work for him much and at other times seen spending generously through his Phil Mickelson Foundation. Mickelson has a class of his own and makes the top ten fan friendly list with his simple act of displaying a quality game and a whole lot of friendliness on the golf course.
