Golfing legends Laura Davies and Karen Stupples to feature at the Ladies Irish Open
Ladies Irish Open attracts top talent and this year is no different. The players have all announced their availability and when the show starts this August, the fans are in for some great golf.
Two of the top players that will grace the field in the Killeen Castle are Laura Davies and Karen Stupples. Both these players require no introduction. They have already become legends of women golf and many fans consider them hot favourite of the event.
Interestingly, both these players belong to England and have often been placed together. They have been around for a long time now and have built a relationship based on friendship and mutual respect.
The fans are very excited about watching these players in action. The participation of these players is a great opportunity for the event organizers. These players are crowd pullers and many fans who would rather stay home and follow the event on TV, usually
come to the golf course for them.
However, experts have a differing opinion about these players.
They claim that these players are now past their prime and their best golf is behind them. The statistics are certainly in their favour. In the year 2012, these players have not played top notch golf.
This is certainly true for Karen Stupples, who has posted below average results on her record this year. In many of the events she has participated so far, she has barely managed to make the cut. In tournaments she did perform, she usually ended up in the
bottom quarter of the scoreboard.
A case in point is her most recent performance in the Evian Masters. She was placed in the 97th position after playing a dismal 150 points.
Similarly, in the top events preceding Evian Masters, the U.S. Women's Open and the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship Presented by P&G, she just made the cut and nothing more.
Laura Davies is another matter altogether. Although, she posted a below average 294 in the Evian Masters and finished the event in the 64th place, Davies has posted some impressive numbers this year.
She played in many of the events on the LET calendar and generally finished at the middle of the leaderboard. She played in Raiffeisenbank Prague Golf Masters and finished in the 20th place. Before that, she played in Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss
Open and finished in the 25th position.
Her best tournament so far was the UniCredit Ladies German Open presented by Audi. There, Davies really shined through and secured the second place after a tough final round.
The numbers suggest that Laura Davies has a better chance of finishing the Ladies Irish Open in the top-ten. However, with the top notch players all competing for the prize money, the going could get tough for the English duo.
