Golf's Deutsche Bank Championship Preview (part 1)
After The Barclays, which took place at Ridgewood country club, the next stop is the Deutsche Bank Championship, which is taking place at the TPC Boston this week. Top 100 players of the FedEx points are to qualify for the second half of the series, which means the World number one, Tiger Woods, and, Jim Furyk, who was disqualified from The Barclays, for missing his pro-am tee off, will be seen together on the greens of TPC Boston.
The event is here and so is the betting preview of the players, who according to the polls done by media reports, will be seen in the top 5 of the leader board.
Jim Furyk
The American was in the news last week for indiscipline, by not waking up on time for his pro-am session. However, according to bettor.com he will be back in news but this time for a top 5 finish. The reasons behind this prediction are as following.
Firstly, he had two victories this season but other than that he performed magnificently at the Greenbrier Classic where he finished in ninth place. He followed up his Greenbrier performance with a top-six finish at the Firestone Country Club, and finally a twenty-fourth finish in the USPGA Championship. The player faced some serious hard luck back there as he changed the possible victory into a spot which was hardly noticeable by posting a 77 in the final round.
Coming to his stats, Jim Furyk, was standing on the second place in Greens in Regulation at USPGA and according to the Putting Average he was at sixth place. These figures signify a promising performance in the future and a strong candidature for the 8 player American Ryder Cup team.
Regarding this venue which is stretched on 7214 yards and par 71, Jim holds a record of three noticeable finishes at 13th, 35th, and 55th place. These scores may not be exceptional but his last two appearances at the venue with the seventh and eighth place finish surely give a sign that Jim can tackle the course in a fine way. According to Jim Furyk, he has a perfect explanation for the fluctuating numbers. He explains that when he came for the very first time to TPC Boston, he was unable to understand the course itself. Moreover, he did not know where to hit the ball thereby finding a green was impossible. However, with time and little renovation brought to the course, Jim has developed relevance which means now he is better at handling the ball on the tricky greens.
According to the analyst, Jim has matured as a player and that can be seen from his past performances. Moreover, he is more confident after getting the confirmation call from captain, Corey Pavin. This confidence will be seen on the tees of the course. Other than personal improvement, Jim will find the new course more attractive as changes have been made, making it more understandable and appealing to the eye. So overall the game will be much easier for the player who once complained about the lousy architecture.
This is it for the first half of the betting preview for the Deutsche Bank Championship which is taking place at the venue of TPC Boston. The winner will certainly make it into the Ryder Cup. As for Jim Furyk, he is already on the team and chances are that he takes the title home, but if he does not settle down on the course, the way he did back in 2003 and 2007, then it might be a different story. As for the rest of the top five players read the second half of this article.
