Golf’s Frys.com Open arrives at Corde Valle
Frys.Com Open is a strange name for a championship, but there it is. The tournament carrying a purse of $5 million will be arriving tomorrow (Thursday, October 13th) at Corde Valle Golf Club, which is situated in San Martin, California.
The Frys.Com Open first venue was in Scottsdale. However, it’s been three years since the organizers decided to move it to Northern California close to its sponsor’s headquarters in San Jose. Corde Valle is a temporary venue for the event as the ultimate location
chosen for it is the Institute Golf Course in Morgan Hill.
CordeValle is one of the most difficult and ultimately beautiful courses of the World. Being privately held has kept its beauty away from the eyes of the people. The course lying on 7, 368 yards was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and opened ten years
back. According to records the course is listed in the top-100 courses of the state.
The par -71 course stands on the foot of the Santa Cruz Mountains and is only 30 km away from San Jose. The resort has a winery, Spa and a hotel in its vicinity. The interesting feature of the resort is the lush green valley that surrounds the entire layout
of 260 acres with breathtaking contours and elevations.
The designer has blended design with beauty, which is why the first thing that captures the eyes of the beholder is the water stream running in the centre of the course and greens lying on the sides. Moreover, bunkers, bays and elevated greens are the trademark
of the course.
Last year a few changes were bought in the course layout. It was converted from par-72 to 71 and the nines were reversed. Owing to these changes, the coming Sunday will be a different scenario for players like the defending champion, Troy Matteson, who seized
the title the last time. The player defeated Rickie Fowler and Jamie Lovemark on the second hole of the playoffs, with a birdie. However, this time his name is not being displayed in the list of players, which means some other lucky player will take the winner
prize of $900,000 home.
The hole which the analysts prefer to look up to is the 17th. It is a 365-yard, par-four hole with a downhill approach and elevated tees. The hole holds the record of maximum bogeys. To avoid such a conjuncture, avoid the water bay and steer
the shot towards the right. This will plunge the shot above the bunker which is in the front of the green.
However, as a player, yet another hole deserves severe attention, the 18th
par-five. The layout is considered as the most serene part of the course, but the stream in the middle of the fairway makes the long hitters revise their shots.
Corde Valle Rosewood resort has a course rating of 75.6 and a slope rating of 147. The tees and roughs have Poa Annua, whereas, the fairways are made up of Kentucky bluegrass in the centre and Poa Annua on the sides. According to the records there are 63
bunkers on a 7368 yard layout, whereas, water comes five times in the play.
Moving further, the course will welcome a star studded field with names like Rickie Fowler, Bo Van Pelt and Arjun Atwal. The trio is the hottest discussion on bettor.com.
According to the betting odds, Bo Van Pelt might have his chance as he has been one of the most consistent players on the 2010 PGA Tour, who haven’t won a title year long. Then comes Arjun Atwal, he finished in the third place at McGladrey Classic, which
denotes that he is in good form. The Indian has one victory under his belt and he is eyeing the second one in the current event.
The last player to capture the eyes of the betting society is a Ryder Cup hero and the runner-up of last year’s event, Rickie Fowler. The golfer is currently at his peak so chances are that he won’t let the title slip out of his hands.
