Golf’s Top Tweeters – Part 1
Apart from official bans by the European and PGA Tour to use cell phones on the course, Masters Organizers earlier this year, slashed a strict ban on players and spectators to bring cell phones on the course as well. It is equivalent to highest offence at
the Masters and they have made it almost impossible to get a cell phone through the stringent security measures and metal devices installed at Augusta.
Players were handed written letters barring them to bring cell phones on the course, apparently in an attempt to secure the already serene and tranquil Augusta from the outside influence.
This is, however, not going to bring down all the tweeting that has become so frequent among the players as well as the fans. Most of the information about the players, their playing schedules and off-course bouts, is disclosed or conveyed through their
twitter accounts to the media in recent times.
Ranging from Sean Foley’s verbal bashing of Hank Haney and the latter’s reply to the same, to the more reasonable Graeme McDowell’s interesting profile pictures, golfer’s frequent Tweeting has attracted quite a load of visitors to the famous social networking
website.
Here is a list of some of the golf’s top tweeters.
1.     Ian Poulter
Country: England
Account: @IanJamesPoulter
Fans: 1.16 million
Although just few shots behind Stewart Cink’s 1.2-million fan listing, Poulter remains the reigning king of the Twitter phenomenon. He first tweeted one of the photos taken at the 18th fairway at the US Open two years ago and since then, has tweeted
a flurry of hilarious movie clips and photos.
Poulter went an extra mile to post photos of his wife’s hairdo headlining “before-and-after disaster”, for which Poulter must have paid a heavy price afterwards. Poulter also launched a hilarious series of video clips of the last held Ryder Cup featuring
his kids munching on cheerios out of it. He also likes to discuss various topics of interest among his fans.

2.     Stewart Cink
Country: USA
Account: @stewartcink
Fans: 1.2 million
Cink is the present runner-up on the Twitter leaderboard in view of his staggering 1.2-million fan following. Apparently, he has posted everything from the footages of his backyard BBQ to his more intimate family photos. Cink is currently wrestling to get
his game back in shape.

3.     Bubba Watson
Country: USA
Account: @Bubbawatson
Fans: 112K
Bubba is probably the funniest of the tweeting golfers who have come out and embraced the format in all its glory. Watson and Rickie Fowler were having a fight off-course a few months ago, over a string of funny videos of each other posted on their respective
pages. One of the clips showed Watson tripping while trying to perform a stunt in a water scooter.

4.     Graeme McDowell
Country: Northern Ireland
Account: @Graeme_McDowell
Fans: 130K
G-Mac probably makes the best use of the internet with his personal website as well as his frequent Tweeting and is not afraid of answering questions posted by his fans. Graeme has a remarkable grasp of the high-tech world and with his ability to load photos
and clips and managing other things on the account, he could have easily qualified to be a network analyst. Graeme also posted a close-up snap of his wisdom teeth shortly after his dentist had pulled it out of the golfer’s aching jaw.
