Gong to the dermatologist?

i am a black male and i want to go the the dermatologist. Is it wrong that I want to see someone black because they will understand my skin questions more? I am not racist, not at all. I just want to know if you think the race of the skin doctor will matter.

Every skin doctor (no matter what color their skin is) should know about skin. And since no skin is different, other than their pigment (which shouldn't affect the skin itself much) I don't think it'll matter.

Although I do understand that it would be more comfortable having a dermatologist with the same skin color as you. Just like it's more comfortable for, say, a woman to have a female doctor. It's the same thing when the doctor and the patient have something in common.

I think it all depends on what's going on with your skin.In my opinion, an African-American dermatologists may be able to identify and be more knowledgeable about certain skin conditions of other African-Americans.
