The underage girl is the "jailbait."

It's more complicated than it sounds. Of course, you need a fellow who is old enough, compared to the girl, that the cops can send him to jail for being with the girl. And a girl who is whatever age to make up her half of that.

But, like the difference between "hot" and "s**t" there is more to it. The girl has to be old enough looking and acting for either the guy to really not think for a second that she is underage, or for him to, um, just not want to really think about it. And carefully not ask. She must also either be really unaware of the risk she is putting him under or be sort of aware of it but want to be with him (or be doing the things he gives her access to) enough that she, um, just doesn't really want to think about it.

A couple minor notes. If she is preying upon such men, maybe to get the cash and prizes older boys and men have available, or especially if she figures to do a little minor blackmail, she's not "jailbait." "Jailbait" carries the senses of:  1) the girl is more or less innocent of evil, and 2) the guy is more or less innocent of evil.

However, there is no limit on the sexual content of the situation. The girl can be "jailbait" whether she and he haven't even kissed or if they've explored everything up to shooting p**n. The behavior and careful lack of thinking about what might be occurring is the hallmark for calling a girl "jailbait."

That all said, if is often used less carefully. For instance, a friend might say to another "Oh my God Jim, what are you doing? That girl's jailbait. I know her sister and she's just 17." Without ever knowing anything of the relationship up to that moment. But that still can be thought of sort of pre-supposing that his friend doesn't know.

And it can be used even less accurately, for instance in the following joke, often the legend for a picture of a couple of hot, almost certainly too young, girls:

Jailbait:  Take two, they're small...

In any case, everyone concerned ought to consider how badly it can end and be a little more careful about their actions. Eh? What man really wants to act like he's with a resilient, semi-experienced adult and carelessly ruin her life 'cause she's not, and what girl really wants to see her parents put in jail the nice, hot guy she went to the "Such and such" concert with? Just for the moment's fun? That's a burden to live with.

Or, I suppose, to just carefully never think about for decades after, if you can.

ha ha ha sounds like youre still jailbait cause you dont' know what that word means.......ok ok ok....jail bait is anyone Man or Woman...who messes with a child who is underage.....that child is the jail bate because its illegal to mess with someone thats under the age of 18 in the united states.   if you are over 18 and you mess with someone under 18 you are risking the chance of going to jail.....get it............that child is that bait ....that will put you in jail if you do it

It means a person is dating or/and sleeping with an under age child.And if the parents find out they will press charges,the person will go to jail,and the person will have to register as an s*x offender.

An adult male trying to hook up with a girl under the age of 18. The adult could go to jail for being with someone under the age of 18. Hence, the girl is considered jailbait because hooking up with her could put the guy in jail.
