Gonzalo Duany trounces Sebastian Macias to surge into main round of XVII Peru International 2012
Peru’s Gonzalo Duany defied all odds and surged into Men’s Singles main round after trouncing his country-mate Sebastian Macias in qualifying-round encounter at the XVII Peru International 2012 in Peru, on Wednesday, April 11.
Gonzalo was impressive in the court as he did not show any sign of urgency and won the battle against Macias in an elevated manner.
The spirited Gonzalo played tremendous badminton and ended the match in straight sets by taking just 36 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Macias played good badminton in the opening set but failed to maintain his performance in the ending points and lost it. In the second set, he failed to put up good show and lost the contest with a comfortable margin.
Gonzalo started his campaign in a dominating manner as he played with aggression. However, Macias also displayed his elite skills in the court and remained close to his opponent.
Until the mid-game break in openings set, both men remained quite close as no one could create a gap on the board.
After the interval, both players again continued their impressive play and did not slow down the pace of rallies.
The score reached at the ending stage when Gonzalo executed powerful strokes in right areas and eventually won the opening game with a decent margin of 21-18.
In the second set, both shuttlers again played aggressive badminton while remaining quicker in all areas of the court. They did not spare any chance to finish off rallies and continued playing in the similar manner in opening half.
Until the one-minute break, Gonzalo managed a small lead against his talented challenger.
After the break, Gonzalo took over the control and started to dictate the pace of rallies. He did not let his opponent to take the bird early by hitting powerful shots in right areas.
Gonzalo was focused in the ending phase of second set and remained successful in ending the game with a comfortable 21-16 score on the board.
The in-form Gonzalo emerged victorious in this straight-set qualifying round battle by an overall margin of 21-18 and 21-16.
