Gonzalo Miranda, Amr Ramsy Swelim move into quarterfinal – Saskatoon Boast Open 2011
The first round of the 10,000 US dollar Men's Prairie Autohaus Saskatoon Boast Open 2011 saw most of the seeded players make through into the quarterfinals.
Nevertheless, the first player into the quarterfinals was second seeded Gonzalo Miranda, who got rid of the Canadian qualifier Michael McCue in straight sets to score a 11-9, 12-10, 11-3 in just thirty four minutes
of the game.
The second seeded Argentinean initiated the first set with a good start but stumbled a few times. On the contrary, his opponent took the opportunity and made a good return and even managed to tie the score at 9 points each but
fell short just close to the finish line in the first set.
During the second set the head-to-head run between the two was once more initiated and the two constantly kept bagging points. However, the Argentinean quickly recovered and broke his adversary and then reeled two successive points
to clog the second set with a 12-10 score.
The third set saw a turn of events, as the Canadian qualifier was tired of the goose chase and was unable to hold his serve for most of the third set. McCue had given up and did not even try in the third set. This time the 22 year-old
Argentinean did not allow his control to slip or falter. Instead he restricted his opponent to three games and sealed his victory.
After the match 22 year old Argentinean, who was also the second seed managed to qualify for the next round which is the quarterfinal.
Winning in a lengthy 42 minutes of the match, Egyptian born Italian Amr Ramsy Swelim
made a fine start, but lost control in the middle of the first set. Mean while, 22 year-old Canadian David Letourneau quickly recovered from 4/5 down to take the lead for the first time and eventually bagged the opening set. The Italian made a tremendous
return in the second set and though the cat and mouse chase progressed well into the set, he eventually clinched the second and the third set with a 11/9 score.
The winners of both the matches will contest against each other in the quarterfinal of the tournament.
