The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 at the Galle International cricket stadium. This was the fourth successive Test match defeat that the English cricket team has to endure
since the start of the year.
These recent defeats have made the position of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Paul-Vaughan-c76145 saying, "It is a lonely place when you are captaining a losing side, and you are not scoring any runs yourself. I have no question that
there are many more runs in his locker. I do not think that is the end of him. It is just a question of whether he will carry on as captain."
Strauss has not made a Test century in his last 16 Test matches, and only has one century in the last 48 Test innings, which dates back to the first Ashes test match at Brisbane in November 2010. He has found support in the England camp though.
The England batting coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Alan-Gooch-c60530, who is also the leading run-scorer for England in Test matches has backed the under fire captain. Gooch has said that no one should challenge the credentials of Strauss as an opening batsman, as he is one of the best
in the country, along with Cook.
Gooch further went on to say, "There have been plenty of captains down the years who have struggled. What we have to do is to remain faithful to all our players and believe in their ability."
The England coach also believes that Strauss is due a big score and he is not suffering from a dip in form, as he scored a hundred in the preliminary matches. For Strauss it is a matter of putting his head down, working hard and making his starts count.
The second Test match starts at Colombo on April 3, 2012 and it will be a chance for England to level the series and go home on a high. However, they will possibly be without http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SCJ-Broad-c2465 who suffered a left ankle and right calf injury in the first Test.
