Good 'land' exercises for road cycling?

Hey,

I'm 15 and am have been training hard on my bike all summer. I'm just wondering whether there are good 'land' exercises such as squats etc to improve cycling either through directly improving strength or helping with core body strength etc.

And also, any help with sprinting would be much appreciated!

  1. I've been cycling for years, but it wasn't until I played soccer that I understood the importance of core body strength.  It's great that you mentioned this at 15 years of age.

Certainly the sit-ups and push-ups are good, but many cyclists are doing what are called "planks".  It's like a stationary push-up where you rest your elbows on the ground.  You can also do them sideways with just one arm on the ground.

I find that the website bicycling.com's training section to have a good range of suggested workouts for all aspects of cycling.

  2. There are many sites out there just Google weight training for cycling.
