  1. You should set your budget for at least 500, that way if you find something for 450 you won't get pissed when they throw in tax and everything else. What to get? I don't know, my system is 8 years old (Technics, don't think they make them anymore), but is solid and will last until I buy a new home in a year or so. Don't get some to cheap where it doesnt decode DTS or only has 1 or 2 optical inputs. With technology changing I would also make sure your reciever supports HDMI for your TV/DVD/PS3, ect...It may be a good idea to get a solid reciever and upgrade your speakers over time.

Once you do get a setup, rent to movie "The Messengers." Is it a great movie? No, not at all. But it will give your rears a true workout. As well as your neck as you will think someone..or something... is actually behind you in your living room!

  2. Sony 5.1 surround sound speakers are good and coast effective.

  3. Call or look online at Crutchfield, (link below) and communicate with one of their people, they also have online chat. If nothing else they can educate you on products within a range of budgets and have several full systems. The sell good quality and their support help desk is top notch if you have questions later on. They support for the life of the system.

  4. When you say 'good' surround system, $200-$400 isn't quite enough, depending on what you perceive as good. But Sony has some 'good' deals for sure. There are others out there also.
