I'm 23 and will be returning to school next year to become a dentist. I'm completly starting over. I never went to college and really want to make this happen. I want to start studying at home to prepare myself. I'm really rusty in math and with the whole school envioronment/studying in general. Does anyone have any advice? What should I study? How should I begin? Can anyone recommend any specific books?

  1. Good for you that you are going back to school.  My recommendation for you is that you start at a community college and take courses that will transfer to a university.  A counselor at the college will help you figure out which courses will transfer and what you should take.  I have a bachelor's and a master's degree and I will tell you that I was terrified of the college math.  It was h**l....but I made it through and so will you.  I took the basic math classes(that didn't transfer) at a community college until I could pass the college math.  (it took me 2 or 3 remedial classes before I managed to pass college math after failing it once or twice).  Then I took math equivalent classes that were easier for me than math to get the credits I needed to satisfy the requirement....Engineering 101 and Logic 101(Philosophy dept,).  You can do it....it takes time and determination, but it can be done.  The best way for you to get prepared to go to college is to go to college,  You learn what to do and what not to do as you go.  You will be fine.  Be proud of yourself and hold your head high.  You won't be the youngest, but you won't be the oldest either, and the big thing is that you are going after your dreams and goals which is something that most people don't have the guts to do.  Go for it!!!
