It all depends in his likes and dislikes, if he likes short stories that are funny like me (I'm 14) he'll want to go for the Just (stupid, Annoying etc.) books. Though they don't take long to read. If he likes the long action books go for the Anthony Horowitz books such as Point Blank and Skeleton key. Theres also Harry Potter boks

Well I am no guy, but I read the Percy Jackson Books by Rick Riordan and they are really cool. A lot of kids at my school love the books. They are high paced funny intense books and they really come alive its so cool!! I hope you like it!
