Question:

Good Foreign Exchange student program?

I'm going to France next year. I'm trying to convince my parents to get a foreign exchange student in my house (from France). I would LOVE to host one. What program do you think is the best?

I thought that website looked pretty good. Is there an OFFICIAL one though? How do most people get them?

Any info on what you need to host them would be appreciated!

  1. First, I would not use AYUSA/INTRAX. Our school doesn't allow them because of many documented cases of problems (i.e. they advertised for placing specific students when they didn't have host families -- illegal).

You're better off to stick with the premier organizations -- AFS, YFU, Rotary. Check with your school for a recommendation. It is also still possible to host a student. Many students are here in "arrival" families and need permanent ones. Make sure your school is still accepting students.

Essentially, to host you need to be able to financially support the student's room and board (they pay all their own personal, school and medical expenses). A separate room isn't required, but it is nice. Your family will also have to pass a background check.
